This mainline passenger coach was built for Canadian National in 1942 on lot 1468 as CN 5297 (class PB-74-F)
by Canadian Car & Foundry, and was used throughout Canada. The coach, which seats 64 people, was sold to
VIA in 1978 and retired from service in 1983. In 1984 the S & H purchased it and renumbered it 603.
In 1985 it was renumbered to 6397 and named "CRESCENT".
Rebuilding began in 1986 with technical help from CN (Atlantic Region), and it reentered service on September 4, 1988.
It is 25.5m (83' 9") long and weighs 67.3 tonnes (74 tons).
